This collection contains a selection of radio broadcast programs produced and/or broadcast by KPFK Los Angeles primarily from 1961 to 1964. The content of these programs consists of contemporary music, traditional music of East Asia, and jazz, including programs by Gunther Schuller, Eric Salzman, Igor Stravinsky, Luciano Berio, Morton Feldman, Earl Brown, John Cage, Ernst Toch, Lou Harrison, Toru Takemitsu, and other contemporary composers. Also featured are several programs focused on the music from Japan, readings from poetry, dramatizations, and lectures, discussions, and interviews with Merce Cunningham, Roselyn Turek, James Baldwin, Harold Lloyd, Peter Cook, Timothy Leary, Edward Albee, Pauline Kael, and many others.
