Background
- Scope and content:
-
Artificial collection of photographs chronicling the after-effects of the San Francisco Earthquake and Fire of 1906. The core of the collection consists of images fromy the California State Earthquake Investigation Commission expeditions led by John Caspar Branner, many of which were published as figures in their reports. To these have been added various unassociated earthquake photographs in Stanford's holdings, including images of damage in Redwood City, Mendocino County, and many in downtown San Francisco. There is also a series of panoramic aerial photographs, most published by San Francisco newspapers.
