The collection also includes a photograph of ruined buildings from the explosion, and a copy of an article on the explosion from the Contra Costa Gazette of July 17, 1944. The piece of metal was found in the hills 1.5 miles southeast of Port Chicago. No information is provided on the source of the metal, so it is unclear how the metal was identified as being from the explosion. The photograph of damaged buildings is labelled as photo #195 and slide #53429. All three items together were part of a very large donation by CCCHS co-founder Louis Stein in 1984.
