Scope and content:

This collection contains nine scanned photographs of Takeshi "Tak" Shindo in Military Intelligence Service Language School (MISLS) at Fort Snelling. There is also a scanned graduation (1945) pamphlet, a news clipping, and a letter.

Takeshi Shindo was a musician and many of the photographs show him performing in the MISLS band. All photos are black and white and many show him in his Army uniform.

Biographical / historical:

Takeshi "Tak" Shindo was born in 1922 in Sacramento, California. Shortly after enrolling at Los Angeles State College, he was incarcerated at Manzanar. In 1944, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a Japanese language instructor in the Military Intelligence Service at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He went on to study and produce music. He passed away in 2002.
