Scope and content:

The Geraldine Knatz Collection is a collection that has many different types of materials and items in it. The most interesting of these items is the Wilmington oil map, which shows the locations of oil in and around the Wilmington area. There is also a folder that contains a large number of photographs of the Smart and Final in Wilmington, and what it used to look like as well as a historic report on the area and the port. As the location of the Smart and Final has its origins in the port area. There is also a number of copied histories of California as reference materials, and documents that detail the Wilmington Cruise terminal.

Biographical / historical:

Geraldine Knatz was the first female port director of the Port of Los Angeles, appointed in January 2006 by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. She is a maritime expert, academic, and author. When she was the Los Angeles port director she formulated and implemented the Clean Truck Program, and the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan. Geraldine Knatz is also the professor of Practice at the University of Southern California, with a joint appointment to the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the USC Price School of Public Policy.
