Collection contains the professional papers of researcher, performer and composer David L. Wessel. Comprises professional files, correspondence, research and writings from his work at the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustic Music (Paris, France) and as the first director of UC Berkeley's Center for New Music and Audio Technologies. Some materials, particularly those of the IRCAM are in French.

David L. Wessel was a professor, researcher, scholar, and performing artist who researched and published in the area of psychoacoustics. He was director of pedagogy and software development at the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustic Music (Paris, France) from 1976-1988 and was the first director of UC Berkeley's Center for New Music and Audio Technologies. Wessel died in 2014.
