The materials were created by Army General Staff in the German Department for War Maps and Surveying in Berlin for military use during World War II.

Scope and content:

The Military Geographic Information on European and Asiatic Russia Collection contains groupings of maps and booklets with geographic information on Russia, the greater Soviet Union area, and one group of materials related to Southeast France. Most of the sets of booklets and maps are titled Militärgeographische Angaben über das Asiatische Rußland or Militärgeographische Angaben über das Europäische Rußland, with one set titled Militärgeographische Beschreibung von Frankreich.

Locations covered in Russia include Moscow, Vologda-Arkhangelsk region, Central Russia, Northeast Russia, Karelia and Kola, and Ural regions. There are also materials covering Kazakhstan-Turkestan and the Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. There is one set covering Southeast France.

The sets include booklets and maps that document railways, streets, shipping lines, aviation areas, population densities, geological features, and waterways. Several sets include booklets with photographic prints of regional features. The materials were created by Army General Staff in the German Department for War Maps and Surveying in Berlin for military use during World War II.

Maps are arranged by geographic region in their original set groupings. Folders are arranged alphabetically by title.
