Biographical / Historical
Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (1872-1898) was an English illustrator and author closely
associated with the Aesthetic movement; he also contributed to the developement of Art
Nouveau with his illustrations and posters. Beardsley had only a six year career before his
early death, at the age of 25, from tuberculosis.
Scope and Contents
A collection of letters written from 1895 to 1898, by Aubrey Beardsley to the English
publisher, Leonard Charles Smithers. The letters are written from various locations
including London, Epsom, Bournemouth, England; Brussels, Belgium; and Paris, Dieppe, and
Mention, France.
