Background

Scope and content:

Small collection of records of Svea Lodge No. 348 (San Jose, Calif.). Comprises financial reports, savings pass book, and early membership ledgers. The annual financial reports, or "Termins-Rapport," are an incomplete set between 1916-1960 and appear to be duplicates of those filed with the central organization. The savings account pass book from Security Savings Bank of San Jose represents accounts of the Svea Drill Team from 1926-1929. Three ledgers document members, dues paid, and dates of joining/leaving, between approximately 1873-1961. The records are supplemented by a small collection of Swedish language books.

Biographical / historical:

Svea Lodge No. 348 San Jose was organized on August 16, 1916, by Edward Anderson and is a member of Golden Gate District No. 12, the VASA Order of America. Its members meet to share Nordic culture and tradition. The remainder of the San Jose lodge's archives are housed with the Vasa Order of America National Archives.
