The California Aggie is an entirely student-run publication at the University of California, Davis. The publication is a unit of the Associated Students of UC Davis and is overseen by the Campus Media Board. The first issue of the publication was published on September 29, 1915, under the name The Weekly Agricola when UC Davis was still the University Farm.
In 1922, the publication officially changed its name to The California Aggie. Issues were published weekly — except for a hiatus during World War II — with an expansion to twice weekly in 1963. In 1966, The California Aggie moved to publishing issues five times per week. The Friday edition dropped off in 2009, and the entire paper ceased a print edition in 2014. It returned as a weekly print paper in September 2016. Since then, The Aggie continues to print its weekly editions every Thursday and publishes online daily.
From 2016-2020 all historical editions of The California Aggie were digitized in partnership with the UC Davis Library. The digital collection launched on a digital archive hosted by the California Digital Newspaper Collection (a project managed by UC Riverside). The collection includes all issues from 1915-2014 for a total of 8,711 issues. The California Aggie was the first undergraduate student publication to digitize its collection. The digital collection is referenced and linked below.
