Jean Parker was born in Nova Scotia in 1842. Her family came to California and settled in Shasta County. Jean was sent to attend high school in San Francisco in the early 1860s, and returned to Shasta to teach. After the Civil War she came back to San Francisco, and during her career there she taught at Denman School and was principal at Rincon Primary, Haight School, and Broadway Grammar, the latter being re-named for her in 1901. She was highly regarded for her education policies and teaching excellence. She died in Belmont, California in 1920.
