This collection contains Vol.1, No. 1-12 (1954) of the "American Socialist", the journal of the Socialist Union. Topics include but are not limited to: the Cold War, McCarthyism, labor unions, and the first Indochina war.

Biographical / historical:

The Socialist Union of America, also called American Socialist Union, or Socialist Union was an organization that split from the Socialist Workers Party in 1953 as an attempt to start a new Marxist left. The publication of the "American Socialist" started in 1954, and ended when the Socialist Union disbanded in 1959.
