Union. Today, OPEIU represents over 100,000 workers in health care, social service, insurance, and office settings across
the United States with the goal of advancing and strengthening the members' economic, social, and professional interests.
Local 3 is a now-defunct chapter based in San Francisco which represented about 1,500 members at its height. In 2016, members
voted to merge Local 3 with Local 29 (based in Oakland, Calif.). As of 2022, Local 29 represents over 6,000 Bay Area employees
at more than 300 locations, with many workers employed by Kaiser Permanente.
