- Biographical / historical:

Alexandra Schepeler (1882-) known as Alick, was born in Minsk, Russia, of German and Irish parentage but raised in Poland where her mother became a governess following her father's death. Schepeler later settled in London, England, where she worked as a secretary at the Illustrated London News for over fifty years. She was interested in the arts and, in the early decades of the 20th century, became an artist's model for Augustus John and Wyndham Lewis; during this time she had sexual relationships with John, Lewis, and the writer, W. B. Yeats.
