-
Homer Grunn, born 5 May 1880, was an American composer, teacher, and performer. Born in Salem, WI, he studied piano and composition in Chicago and at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. After teaching at music schools in Chicago, from 1903 to 1907, and Phoenix, from 1907 to 1910, he settled in Los Angeles. Grunn encountered Native American music during visits to New Mexico and appropriated the melodies he collected in his ballets and in songs and piano pieces, harmonizing them in Romantic style. He also composed operettas, childrenโs operas, and ballets, most of which were produced locally. Grunn died in Los Angeles on 6 June 1944.
