- J. Harold Williams (1888-1981) was a professor of education at UCLA (1923- ). He served as the associate director for the University of California Extension Division (1942-46) and as the provost of Santa Barbara College (1946-55), which became UC Santa Barbara in 1958. The collection consists of publications by Williams and others relating to minority education, clippings related to higher education, gifted children, education and religion, and the California Institute for men at Chino. There are also memos, minutes, and a notebook relating to Williams' career.

Williams was born on December 21, 1888 in Ainsworth, Nebraska; AB (1913), MA (1914), Ph.D (1916), Stanford University; in 1923 joined UCLA faculty, becoming professor of education; served as associate director, University of California Extension Division (1942-46) and provost of Santa Barbara College (1946-55), which became UC Santa Barbara in 1958; he died on June 2, 1981.
