Robert Walton Leonard (1910- ) joined the Department of Physics faculty at UCLA in 1941. He taught and researched the physics of acoustics, and his particular interests were in the mechanics of wave motion and the propagation of sound in gases, liquids and solidsm, and the generation and measurement of high intensity sound and noises and ultrasonics. The collection consists of problem sets, laboratory exercises, examinations and book lists for the Physics 114 series of undergraduate courses taught by Leonard at UCLA. There are also reprint files representing his research interests.

Leonard was born on April 6, 1910 in San Diego, California; AB (1935), MA (1936), and Ph.D (1939), UC Berkeley; joined Department of Physics faculty at UCLA in 1941, where he taught and researched the physics of acoustics; his particular interests were in the mechanics of wave motion and the propagation of sound in gases, liquids and solids; the generation and measurement of high intensity sound and noises and ultrasonics; he wrote The adsorption of sound in carbon dioxide by a direct method.
