Background

Scope and content:

This collection was assembled by Alvin Kapusta, a special assistant for Soviet nationalities in the U.S. State Department. He received his education at Minot State College and the University of California, Berkeley.

The collection consists of printed matter related to Russian and East European cultural and literary figures, to bibliographies of their work, and to bibliographical material in general. There is a detailed collection of printed matter related to the Russian author, Alekseĭ Remizov, including photocopies of his writings. Finally, there is a substantial amount of material dealing with the "Stundist" Movement in the Ukraine and the U.S., including accounts of religious persecution in the U.S.S.R.

The bulk of the collection covers the period from 1950-1980. The Alekseĭ Remizov material includes photocopies of books published from 1908-1955.
