Snapshots or amateur views including San Francisco's Cliff House and Golden Gate Park, Monterey, Sacramento, Mt. Tamalpais, Sausalito, the Mokelumne River, and the Del Ray [sic] mine. Also present is a view of the tombstone of Eduard Theodor and Charlotta Augusta Raun, parents of Eduard P. Raun.

Biographical / historical:

The Rauns were a family of Oakland, Calif. pioneers. Eduard P. Raun (b. 1856, Coloma, Calif.) operated the Del Ray Quartz Mine, Amador County, Calif. His father, Eduard Theodor Raun, came to California in 1849 and, in 1853 married Charlotte Augusta Phelps of Benicia, Calif. (Biographical information is derived from the auction catalog of Sale 105 of the California Book Auction Galleries (Nov. 1974)).
