Captain Alfred Durkee papers, 1862-1955, (SAFR 22227, HDC 1620) consists of materials apparently compiled by a Durkee family descendant.
Documents vary in date and subject matter, but all relate to Captain Alfred Durkee and family, the Maritime Museum (San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park), and the BALCLUTHA (built 1886; ship, 3m). Documents include a typescript of "Beating out of Bristol Channel in the Winter of '94: Ship Balclutha," engagement ephemera for great-granddaughter Inda Kristan Stevens Dunn, receipts and invoices (1900-1914), an 1862 Provincial Secretary's Office circular, and a copy of correspondence between Karl Kortum, founder of the San Francisco Maritime Museum, and Millie Robbins (post 1955). The collection has been processed to the collection level and is available for use without restrictions.

Historical Note: Captain Alfred Durkee was originally from Nova Scotia and commanded the BALCLUTHA (built 1886; ship, 3m) from 1893-1899. His daughter, Inda Frances Durkee was born on the ship. Inda Durkee's granddaughter, Inda Kristan Steven Dunn, participated with the rechristening of the ship as it was again renamed the BALCLUTHA after being named the PACIFIC QUEEN (built 1886; ship, 3m) for some time.
