Collection consists of both incoming and outgoing personal and business correspondence, literary manuscripts, notebooks, a diary providing an account of a visit to Spain, and ephemera. Correspondents include James A. Hutton, James Martineau, Coulson Kernahan, James Payn, Miss Peard, Grant Richards, Clement Shorter, and Ralph Vaughan Williams. Manuscripts include The red cockade, Ovington's bank, and a play by Wilton J. Rix, adopted from the novel by Weyman.

Weyman was born on August 7, 1855 in Ludlow, England; BA in modern history, Christ Church College, Oxford University, 1877; called to the bar in 1881; however, because his early career showed little signs of success, he turned to writing; published works include The house of the wolf (1890), The king's stratagem and other stories (1891), The new rector (1891), Under the red robe (1894), The red cockade: a novel of the French Revolution (1895), In kings' byways (1902), Ovington's bank (1922), and The lively Peggy (1928); he died on April 10, 1928.
