Mary Lorraine Mathies (1919- ) worked as a collections librarian at the Federal Advanced Teachers College in Lagos, Nigeria, while a library consultant for USAID and the Nigerian Ministry of Education (1962-63). In 1964, she became the head of the education and psychology library at UCLA. The collection consists of professional papers, including printed background material on education, of Dr. Mathies while serving as librarian for a USAID/UCLA School of Education project to set up a library at the Federal Advanced Teacher Colleges in Lagos, Nigeria.

Mary Lorraine Mathies was born on October 29, 1919 in Newton, Iowa; AB, University of Denver, 1948; MA (1957) and Ed.D (1967), UCLA; worked as a collections librarian at the Federal Advanced Teachers College in Lagos, Nigeria, while a library consultant for USAID and the Nigerian Ministry of Education, 1962-63; in 1964 she became the head of the education and psychology library at UCLA.
