Topics of the interviews and lectures are wide-ranging and include the Los Angeles Airport; American photography; Allensworth, an African-American community in San Joaquin Valley, California; African-American life in Los Angeles; Afghanistan in the 1960s and 1970s; gardening with California natives and fire-resistant plants; Coalinga, California; the California Democratic Council; Japanese-American internment during World War II; Ralph Bunche; homesteading in the early twentieth century; Los Angeles businesses; the University of California, San Diego, Library; NRA and antitrust attitudes of Franklin D. Roosevelt; Griffith Park; and labor activism. This collection contains the audio recordings of oral history interviews and transcripts of several of the interviews; transcripts of interviews for which there is no recording in the collection; a few items of ephemera relating to the interview subjects; audio recordings and transcripts of lectures; and audio recordings and outlines of a television series, "World of Ornamentals."
