Harold Hadley Story (1893-1963) was a reporter for newspapers in Tucson, Arizona, and Los Angeles, California, taught night school and UC Extension classes, did public relations work for Los Angeles Municipal Airport (known as Mines Field), and worked for the administrations of Los Angeles Mayors Frank Shaw and Fletcher Bowron. The collection consists of Story's correspondence, manuscripts, bulletins, pamphlets, clippings, and photographs related to his work in the Los Angeles City Mayor's Office, his work as a teacher, and his involvement with local organizations and clubs.

Includes materials related to Story's work in the Los Angeles City Mayor's Office between 1931-51. Also includes materials related to Story's work as a teacher and his involvement with local organizations and clubs. Manuscripts by Story include articles, short essays, and short stories.

Biographical / historical:

Story was born in 1893; spent his childhood in Iowa until his family moved to California in 1901; joined Socialist party; jailed as a conscientious objector during World War I; attended Whittier College; reporter for newspapers in Tucson, Arizona, and Los Angeles, California; taught night school and UC Extension classes; did public relations work for Los Angeles Municipal Airport (known as Mines Field); worked for the administrations of Los Angeles Mayors Frank Shaw and Fletcher Bowron; died, 1963.
