Abstract:
Harold Palmer Davis (1878-1962), who served as Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce for Haiti, was the author of Black Democracy: the Story of Haiti and Gold Rush Days in Nevada City. The majority of this small collection contains Davis' writings about Haiti including a memorandum with his thoughts on the American occupation of Haiti and his suggestions for future policy, as well as manuscripts on Port Au Prince, and the Citadel and the Sans-Souci Palace. Several of the works also include photographs.

Scope and content:

The majority of this small collection contains Davis' writings about Haiti including a memorandum with his thoughts on the American occupation of Haiti and his suggestions for future policy, as well as manuscripts on Port Au Prince, and the Citadel and the Sans-Souci Palace. Biographical / historical:

Harold Palmer Davis was born in Maine on May 21, 1878. He served as Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce for Haiti and authored Black Democracy: the Story of Haiti and Gold Rush days in Nevada City.

Davis passed away on December 10, 1962.
