Biographical / historical:

Edith Mary Dowley was professor of psychology and education at Stanford University and founding director of its Bing Nursery School. Dowley earned her M.A. at the University of Michigan in 1934 and her doctorate in education at Stanford in 1951. She taught at Stanford from 1949 until her retirement in 1975.
