Carolyn See (1934-2016) was a professor in the UCLA Department of English. Her published books include: Mothers, daughters (1977), and Rhine maidens (1981). The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts and manuscript drafts, clippings, books, and printed materials related to Carolyn See's literary career.

Scope and content:

The collection documents the literary and academic career of Carolyn See. It contains early writings, her UCLA doctoral dissertation and manuscripts of her many books, articles and reviews. The collection also includes correspondence, recordings, ephemera and material related to professional organizations.

Biographical / historical:

Carolyn See was born January 13, 1934 in Pasadena, California. She received her undergraduate degree from Los Angeles State College of Applied Arts and Sciences (now California State Los Angeles), 1957 and her Masters (1961) and Ph.D (1963) from UCLA. In addition to the novels, memoir, and writing guide See wrote, she also co-wrote Two schools of thought (1991) with John Espey. With Espey and her daughter Lisa See Kendall under the joint pseudonym, Monica Highland, See wrote: Lotus Land (1983), 110 Shanghai road (1986), Golden days (1986), Greetings from Southern California (1988) and Precious cargo (1990). Carolyn See was a professor of creative writing at UCLA in the Department of English and a regular contributor to the Washington Post. Carolyn See died July 13, 2016.
