Background

Scope and content:

The papers consist largely of research materials compiled by Weinstein for his books, Eboué and Gabon: Nation-Building on the Ogooué. The preponderance of these pertain to the life and career of Félix Eboué, a black French colonial administrator who served in Martinique, Guadeloupe, and French Equatorial Africa. The Eboué materials contain a large number of copies of official correspondence and reports; they also include personal correspondence and biographical materials. Of note are materials that document Eboué's role in rallying Chad to the cause of Charles de Gaulle's Free French Forces in 1941.

The papers contain a significant number of photographs of Eboué. There are also research materials on Gabon and Guinea, as well as a paper written by Brian Weinstein on the Alar Ayang movement in Gabon.
