These records document changes in the regulations of the Manila Galleons from the Real Tribunal y Consulado de Manila to the formation of the Real Compania de Filipinas. Many deal specifically with trade between Mexico and the Philippine Islands and Asia. The correspondence is chiefly between the Philippines and Spain, but gives good reportage on incidents in Mexico. The principal correspondent is Baltasar Doncel, Consulado for Manila.

The Philippine Commerce and the Manila Galleon Collection was purchased by The Bancroft Library from Bernard Quaritch, Ltd., London, in two installments: Part I was acquired in July 1990 and Part II in July 1993.
