- Rabbi Jacob Bauman (1871-1940) was the rabbi of Agudath Achim Congregation, then Congregation Talmud Torah, and finally with Congregation Share Torah, where he remained until his death in 1940. As a scholar, he was concerned with the study of the Torah and problems of Jewish law. The collection consists of Bauman's correspondence, manuscripts, and related papers including an original manuscript of his Hemdat Ya'akov and a partial manuscript of Matnat kehunah.

Rabbi Jacob Bauman was born in Riseshitz, Poland, in 1871; pursued rabbinical studies in Poland; came to Los Angeles in 1907 and became rabbi of Agudath Achim Congregation, then Congregation Talmud Torah, and finally with Congregation Share Torah, where he remained until his death in 1940; was a scholar concerned with the study of the Torah and problems of Jewish law.
