Background

Biographical / historical:

Charles Brackett was an American producer and screenwriter active in film from 1932 to 1962. Prior to his career in Hollywood, he served in World War I, practiced law, wrote novels, and was a drama critic for β€œThe New Yorker.” Brackett started as a staff writer in 1932 at Paramount where he met Billy Wilder. The two went on to collaborate on a number of films and screenplays, including THE LOST WEEKEND (1945) and SUNSET BLVD. (1950). Brackett received three Academy Awards in the writing category and a 1957 Honorary Award. He served as president of the Academy from 1949 to 1955.
