Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains correspondence written by Alfred Robinson, AEF to his mother Mrs. H.L. Robinson, during the First World War as well as four empty envelopes, one of which is postmarked from 1934. Topics of the letters consist of military life and brief responses to prior conversations Robinson was having with his mother. In the letter dated April 15, 1918 Robinson expresses regret at not being overseas in "the pleasant land of France" and that "already we are too late for the spring drive." He describes his situation as "dull now, so dull, nothing doing nohow." His subsequent letters during the war were written from Akron, indicating he never served overseas. Also included are letters written in 1924 from Los Angeles.

One of the letters, dated December 3, 1894, was written by a woman named Ella Yeagla to her aunt, Elisa Lamphear. [Unclear if this letter is related to Alfred Robinson or his family]
