Scope and content:

This collection contains the architectural drawings of Victor K. Thompson's private practice, with some additional drawings from Robert Peterson. The drawings primarily consist of building additions for the Ladera Community Church, Filoli Gardens, Filoli Center, Los Altos Hunt riding club, and numerous private homes throughout the San Francisco Peninsula.

Biographical / historical:

Victor King Thompson (1913-2007) was a Stanford University professor emeritus of architecture. Thompson joined the University in 1948 and coordinated Stanford's architecture program, inviting practicing architects as guest lecturers, and taught art history for 25 years before his retirement. During his tenure, he partnered with former architecture student, Robert Peterson, to form Thompson & Peterson Architects.

Thompson was also involved with several community organizations in the San Francisco Peninsula, both as a volunteer and as a consulting architect. These organizations include the Friends of Filoli, Los Altos Hunt Club, Menlo Polo Club, Ladera Community Church, and Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve.
