Collection includes a copy of Wei's published autobiography, handwritten notes by General Wei Daming relating to his career in the National Government of the Republic of China secret service, a memorial publication about Wei's wife, photographs, and other miscellaneous materials relating to Wei and his family.

Biographical / historical:

Wei Daming 魏大銘 (1907-1998) was a general and cryptographer. He was born in 1907 in Shanghai. He was a member of the Chinese Nationalist Revolutionary Army and helped build the cryptographic network for the regime. He later joined the Nationalist Chinese Military Intelligence Bureau. Wei headed the cryptographic division of Nationalist Chinese secret service for forty years; he was a key figure in modern China's (and post-1949 Taiwan's) technology relating to code-breaking, signal intelligence, and cryptographic ciphers. He was charged with corruption in 1965 and imprisoned until 1970. He died in Taiwan in 1998.
