- Biographical / historical:

A pioneer plant biochemist, Walton B. Sinclair first began his work in Riverside at the Citrus Experiment Station in 1932. He focused his research on the biochemistry of citrus fruits, and among many other achievements his work was used to develop the legal standards for marketing in the California citrus industry. He is also known for his monographs on citrus, which became standard reference materials for the study of fruits like the lemon, orange, and grapefruit.
He was a Professor Emeritus in Biochemistry at UC Riverside, and served as Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry until his retirement in 1968.
