- Dr. Leonard Osborne, fleet surgeon in the US Navy during the War of 1812, kept this journal from 1809 to 1815. He also included some sketches, hand-drawn maps, and poems. The notification of Dr. Osborne's death from the Secretary of the Navy, dated October 20, 1837, is pasted inside the journal's front cover.
