- John Blanton was an architect that worked predominantly in Southern California. Early in his career, he worked under architect Richard Neutra. In 1964 Blanton began his own practice in Manhattan Beach, California. The collection consists of architectural drawings related to Blanton's solo career. Additionally included are publications with articles by and/or about Blanton.

The collection consists of architectural drawings and publications related to the career of architect John Blanton. The majority of the drawings represent resident dwellings with a small number of drawings for commercial buildings, some of which are unbuilt projects. Also included are six Compact Discs created by Blanton with pdf files of project drawings. The publications comprise articles both by and about John Blanton. Writings by Blanton include his column, Better Buildings, published in the Easy Reader Newspaper. Writings about Blanton consist of clippings and/or complete magazine publications from AIA Journal, Sunset, Home, and the Los Angeles Times, among others. Notably absent from the collection are materials directly related to Blanton's employment with Richard Neutra.

John A. Blanton was born in Houston, Texas on January 1, 1948. He received both a BA (1948) and BS (1949) in Architecture from Rice University. He moved to Los Angeles in 1950 and began working under architect Richard Neutra. In 1964 Blanton started his own practice in Manhattan Beach, California. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects. During his career, Blanton contributed articles to professional publications and published a weekly column for the Easy Reader Newspaper titled Better Buildings (1994-1996). he retired in 2012.
