The collection contains administrative records; board materials; correspondence; grant proposals; media outreach files and coverage of LGAIN; membership materials; newsletter editorial and production files; materials related to other professional organizations, including newsletters from other LGBT senior groups; subject files, including articles and resources on aging, healthcare, housing, and long-term care; and ASA conference materials, including audio recordings of sessions. There is also documentation of earlier LGBT initiatives at the ASA and collaborations with the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Gerontology. Biographical / historical:

The Lesbian and Gay Aging Issues Network (LGAIN) was the LGBT interest group of the American Society on Aging (ASA), a San Francisco-based national membership association for professionals in the field of aging. LGAIN was established in 1994 and changed its name to the LGBT Aging Issues Network (LAIN) in 2008. It works to identify and address the concerns of LGBT elders, to advocate on their behalf, and to encourage LGBT cultural competence among service providers.
