- Scope and content:
-
The official boundary of the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego stretches from Broadway to Market Street between Fourth and Sixth Avenues. In 1974 an organization known as the Gaslamp Quarter Association was founded to serve the business and property owners in the Gaslamp Quarter. In 1976 the City Council approved the Gaslamp Quarter Preliminary Redevelopment Plan. The Project Area Committee, formed in 1977, was an outgrowth of the Association’s Plan Implementation Committee. Juliet Mondot, owner of a media production company became a member of the Gaslamp Quarter Project Area Committee in 1979. It is believed that she assembled the material in this collection and either she, or someone close to her, donated it to the library. The donation date is unknown. The collection consists primarily of memoranda from the City of San Diego Planning Department, reports to the City Council, announcements and minutes of meetings of the Gaslamp Quarter Association and Project Area Committee (as well as its subcommittees), and newspaper clippings.
