Biographical / historical:

Paul Baran, 1926-2011, was a Polish-American engineer who helped create the technical underpinnings for the Arpanet, the government-sponsored precursor to today's Internet. He was one of the three earliest researchers of packet switching techniques, and went on to start several companies and develop other technologies that are an essential part of the Internet and other modern digital communication.

The collection is not processed at the time of the finding aid publishing date, but open to research. The inventory is provided by the donor, and has been minimally checked for accuracy. The collection has been rehoused and the containers re-numbered. The gaps in the container order indicate that those items were not received by the repository on the accession date.
