Background
- Scope and content:
-
The California Appellate Court Legacy Project is comprised of more than 90 videotaped interviews of retired justices of and justices nearing retirement from the California Court of Appeal, First through Sixth Appellate Districts. Interviews date from 2006 to the present. The majority of the interviews have been conducted by justices serving in the same appellate district as the justice being interviewed. The California Judicial Center Library's holdings include video recordings, interview transcripts, biographical materials, and other records relevant to the project. Oral history interviews cover personal and professional recollections and include discussions relating to early life, education, judicial careers and other government service, judicial philosophies, significant historical events, and notable opinions, concurrences and dissents. The Appellate Court Legacy Project Committee and staff of the Judicial Council of California continue to schedule oral history interviews with justices as they retire from the bench and the California Judicial Center Library will continue to add material to this collection on a regular basis.
