Abstract:
Margaret Fallenius (approx. 1888-1962) was a voice, piano and violin teacher in Palo Alto, California, originally from the Portland, Oregon area. From approximately 1911-1924, Margaret performed classical violin on the Orpheum, Keith and Pantages vaudeville circuits. The collectioon contains travel diaries, scrapbooks, photograph albums, theater ephemera and programs, photographs, musical scores/sheets, and greeting cards documenting Margaret Fallenius' (1888-1962) career in vaudeville. The material in the collection was created between 1875 and 1959. Some of the material created in the 19th century may have been collected by Margaret's parents, Carl (1843-1897) and Edith (1861-1941) Fallenius, who were both musicians as well.

The material in the collection was created between 1875 and 1959. Some of the material created in the 19th century may have been collected by Margaret's parents, Carl (1843-1897) and Edith (1861-1941) Fallenius, who were both musicians as well.

Biographical / historical:

Margaret Fallenius (approx. 1888-1962) was a voice, piano and violin teacher in Palo Alto, California, originally from the Portland, Oregon area. Her father, Carl Constantine Fallenius, was a Swedish pianist and composer of popular Swedish music who died circa 1897 while on a visit to relatives in Sweden. Margaret's mother, Edith Greve Fallenius, nÊe Yarndley, was a pianist, organist, and music teacher who supported herself and her daughter by her music after her husband's death and throughout the remainder of her life.

From approximately 1911-1924, Margaret performed classical violin on the Orpheum, Keith and Pantages vaudeville circuits. She may also have served in the USO in France in 1918.

Acquisition information:
The initial donation was a gift of Beatrice Belding Hurd, October 29, 2015. An accrual to the collection was donated by Grace and Fred Hurd on March 20, 2025.

The collection is minimally processed with two series-level records: the first describes the initial 2015 acquisition and the second describes the 2025 accrual.
