Scope and content:

The Steve Ginsburg papers document his activities as a founder of Chutzpah (later Achvah), the first gay Jewish group on the West Coast , and as Parade Co-Chairperson of the 1973 Gay Freedom Day Committee. The collection includes flyers, newsletters from both groups, his letter of resignation from the Gay Freedom Day Committee and photographs of the 1973 and 1974 parades. In addition to his activism in San Francisco, Ginsburg founded P.R.I.D.E. (Personal Rights in Defense of Education) in Los Angeles in May 1966 in response to a police raid on a gay bar.
