Collection contains zines, newsletters, flyers, leaflets, and other paper ephemera related to the San Francisco Bike Messengers Association. Collection includes a bike messenger bag that belonged to the donor.
- Biographical / historical:

San Francisco Bike Messenger Association (SFBMA) was established in 1991 with the purpose of creating an organization in which messengers could pool their talents to work for the betterment of the entire San Francisco messenger community. Initially anyone who worked in the San Francisco messenger industry such as dispatchers and clerks were considered members of the association. The SFBMA later sought union organization and formed an alliance with the International Longshoremen and Warehouse Union, which enabled employees to fight for benefits due from employers and to address wage and overtime violations.

- This collection was anonymously donated to the San Francisco History Center in 2003.

During processing, the entire collection was re-foldered and re-housed in acid-free folders and boxes. Some metal staples remain.

The collection is open for research and available for use during San Francisco History Center hours. Photographs are available during Photo Desk hours. This collection must be requested at least 4 business days in advance of visit.

All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the City Archivist. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items. Additional copyright clearance may be required.
