Vera Lucille Smith Schultz was born in 1902 near Caliente, Nevada. Vera was the first woman elected to the Mill Valley City Council in 1946 and then to the Marin County Board of Supervisors in 1952. Throughout her career, she championed various causes, from the establishment of Marin General Hospital to promoting low-cost housing and racial integration.
