- Biographical / historical:

Everett Thomson Moore (1909-1988) was head of reference department (1946-61) and assistant university librarian and member of the school of Library Service faculty beginning in 1961 at UCLA; member of the board of directors, American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, beginning in 1961; cofounder, trustee, and vice-president, Freedom to Read Foundation; Moore brought a legal action against California Attorney General Evelle J. Younger, who claimed that individual librarians could be prosecuted for giving juveniles access to questionable reading materials, and the California Court of Appeal ruled in Moore's favor in 1976; Moore died on January 5, 1988.
