Background

Scope and content:

The collection contains approximately 4600 comic books, mostly from the 1980s and early 1990s, collected by Michael Fallon of Palo Alto. There is a mix of single issue comics and multi-issue series. Most of the comic books come from large comic book publishers, such as Marvel, DC Comics, and Dark Horse Comics, though smaller publishers are included throughout. In addition to the classic superhero comic books, there are a number of comic book adaptations of books and movies, including a substantial number of Walt Disney comic books. The collection also includes some English translations of Japanese manga. While Fallon collected widely, certain characters are more represented than others, including Batman, Daredevil, Grendel, Nick Fury, Spiderman, and Superman. What follows in the finding aid is a listing of titles, numbers, dates, publishers and any notes provided by the collector. For the most part, issues are sorted according to an alphabetical scheme based on the lead character's name. Series featuring the same character are grouped together despite varying issue titles.

Acquisition information:
This collection was give by Michael Fallon to Stanford University, Special Collections in June 2021.
Arrangement:

Fallon's original order is largely retained. Comic books are arranged alphabetically by character name or title. Volumes featuring the same character under multiple titles are grouped together, usually under the character's name. The one exception is that all comics published by Walt Disney Comics are grouped together rather than separated by character.
