Record Series 566 contains administrative files generated by the California Institute for Cancer Research (CICR) at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center. Files include primarily grant files, including proposals, correspondence, expenditure reports, summary reports in both technical and layperson language, and reprints of publications resulting from grant funded research. Additionally, files include administrative reports, event documentation, CICR/University agreements, and CICR history materials.

The California Institute for Cancer Research (CICR) at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center was founded in 1945 to support cancer research, treatment, and prevention. As a private, separately incorporated support group at UCLA, the CICR awarded 12 to 15 grants of between $10,000 and $20,000 annually to UCLA cancer researchers. Grants supported work done at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. As of April 2014, the CICR continues to offer occasional extramural funding opportunities to researchers.
