Scope and content:

Set of 12 black-and-white photographs by Erven Jourdan consisting of an eclectic mix of subjects, many of them portraits. The following titles for the individual works were assigned by the photographer: 1. Dustin Hoffman, 1974; 2. John Barr, 1978; 3. Straw Hat, 1947 (Aerial view of man on sidewalk with straw hat); 4. Green Hotel, Pasadena, 1969; 5. Narcissa Alley - Dancer, 1930 (Alley stands in front of the Peasley Studio); 6. Alec Templeton, 1945; 7. Charles Greene - Architect, 1947; 8. Oregon Flour Mill, 1935; 9. Rain, 1932; 10. Taliesin West, 1957; 11. "Hello Dolly" set at 20th Century Fox Studios; 12. Filing Cross-Cut Saw, 1936. The prints are 4.5 x 6.5 inches, on mat boards 11 x 14 inches. Each mat is signed by the photographer in pencil. Title of collection embossed on presentation box that accompanied the collection. Erven Jourdan's name is spelled incorrectly as "Erven Jordan."

Biographical / historical:

Erven Jourdan (1918-1984) was the son of Portland, Oregon photographers Albert and Alda Jourdan. He moved to Los Angeles in the 1940s and worked as a photographer, writer, producer and director.
