The collection includes photographs taken by Donald Eckert between 1970s-2000s. Donald Charles Eckert (June 7, 1941-May 16, 2016) was a San Francisco-based photographer. He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and moved to San Francisco in 1969-1970. He moved to the Castro district in 1972. His work documents the LGBTQ life in San Francisco from marches and parades to Halloween gatherings and the Gay Games. He was a friend of Harvey Milk's, and one of Eckert's best known photos is of Milk with President Jimmy Carter. Eckert created the website "Uncle Donald's Castro Street" to share his photos, and those of other photographers, along with the history of gay life in San Francisco.
